FAQ
The term ‘reiki’ comes from the Japanese word ‘rei’ meaning ‘universal’ or ‘higher power’, and ‘ki,’ which translates to ‘vital life force energy’ that flows through all living things.
‘Reiki’ is a Japanese technique for meditation promoting relaxation, stress reduction, and activating the ‘natural healing ability’ of the body.
It is not a religion nor associated with any religious practice, but is based on an Eastern medicine belief that living beings have energy fields that support their health and vitality.
Reiki is a complementary health approach in which practitioners place their hands on or just above different areas of the recipient’s body (in-person or through a long-distance set up) sensing energy blocks and moving the energy for the highest good of the client.

Reiki is a ‘non-invasive’ gentle technique of treatment that helps the body heal by removing blocks in its energy field, aligning and balancing the body’s ‘chakras’ (energy centers) and straightening the body’s energy pathways.
Energy blocks impede innate flow of energy through the chakras (energy centers) causing various physical, emotional and mental health issues.
Although Reiki, which is universal life force energy flows through the hands of the practitioner into the recipient’s body, the practitioner is just a ‘conduit or a medium’ for activating the natural healing process of the recipient or ‘prana’ (existing life force energy of the recipient) by balancing the chakras (energy centers) and removing blockages to allow the energy to flow to the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual spaces where it’s needed.
Reiki works to heal the ‘cause’ rather than just the symptoms of any disease.

Dr. Mikao Usui is believed to be the founder of the original form of Reiki. Dr. Usui was an avid scholar, pursuing medicine, psychology, religion and spiritual practices.
He believed that healing the body was both a physical and spiritual experience and sought to find these answers in his studies.
It was during his studies that he discovered the connection with Reiki and healing.
Dr. Usui then created his own system of healing, Usui Reiki, which he taught to his students and shared with clients in hospitals and medical clinics.
‘Usui reiki’ came to the West via Hawaii in the 1930s thanks to a Japanese American woman named Hawayo Takata. She travelled back to her native Japan to seek healing for her own physical and mental ailments, including a lung condition, asthma and a nervous breakdown after the death of her husband.
One of Mikao Usui’s students, Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, taught reiki to Takata. Her healing experience was so profound that Takata returned to Hawaii and became the first person to teach reiki in the West.

The first step is a pre-consult or in-take process in which the practitioner explains treatment or healing using Reiki therapy and a brief health history is shared by the client with respect to the ailment or issue the client is suffering.
At this stage, the practitioner may check with the client for a health condition if any, that may impact lying flat on the back or front or areas that are sensitive on account of any surgery or existing pain or discomfort in the body.
Based on the discussion with the client, the practitioner sets a positive intention for healing.
A ‘consent to heal’ with Reiki, is requested from the client after which appointment is booked for the actual therapy.

Reiki restores a state of balance by unlocking your body’s natural healing abilities.
The practitioner administers Reiki that flows through the ‘chakras’ or seven main energy centers of the body breaking down energy blockages in the chakras and straightening the body’s energy pathways that causes physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healing to take place.
✿ During the session
The experience of Reiki is subjective, changeable, and sometimes very subtle. The recipient often experiences heat in the practitioner’s hands, (in case of long-distance healing warmth may be felt on the areas energy is flowing to).
Other common experiences are subtle pulsations or cascading waves of pulsations throughout the body.
Recipients frequently feel that they are hovering in a threshold state of consciousness, simultaneously aware of their surroundings and deeply indrawn.
Some may fall into a deep, sleep like meditative state. Sometimes the experience of Reiki is dramatic, while for other people, the first session may be uneventful, although they feel somehow better afterward.
✿ After the session
The most common experience is an almost immediate release of stress and a feeling of deep relaxation.
Others might feel:
❀ Lighter.
❀ Happier.
❀ Energised.
❀ More relaxed.
❀ Shift in thinking.
❀ Freer in your body with less physical pain.
❀ Freer in your mind as situations that once bothered you no longer do.
Occasionally, for a brief period, some may also experience:
❀ Tiredness.
❀ Sadness.
❀ Restlessness.
❀ Anger.
❀ Slightly lightheaded or nauseous.
These states are a part of a rebalancing process and pass in a little while.
The practitioner may ask the client to rest or continue lying down if they feel tired and suggest hydrating well with water or herbal tea once they are up.

Choose a quiet location where you won’t be disturbed for the duration
of your session (i.e. your bedroom with your phone set on airplane mode or switched off completely for the session).
❀ It’s best to have a Distance Reiki Healing Session at night before you would normally go to sleep, or during the day if you can afford a short nap.
❀ You may prefer to have Distance Reiki Healing sessions while you are at work or on the go during the day, but only if it is really needed and you are unable to spare time otherwise.
Although Reiki can be received at any time of the day and won’t impact your ability to work, the benefits (relaxation, calmness etc.) won’t be derived to the fullest if the atmosphere around is busy, noisy or stressful.
Also, you might not be as aware of effects as you would in case of a session at home or in a quiet place.
❀ In case you are having a Reiki session in the morning or during the day, avoid any rigorous physical activity post-session, focus as much as possible to stay calm and in tune with your inner self, so you can allow the benefits of Reiki to continue flowing.
It is believed that the benefits of Reiki healing continue for up to 48 hours even after the session is over.
❀ It is highly recommended to avoid red meat, alcohol, excessive caffeine and any toxic substances for at least 48 hours after your Reiki treatment to derive maximum benefits from the session.
❀ Stay well hydrated with water, herbal tea, flavored water immediately after the session is over.
Reiki healing causes the toxins stored in the body’s tissues to be released; it is imperative that these toxins are flushed out, as they can re-enter the system.
A glass of water thus consumed immediately after a Reiki-session, flushes out the toxins and blockages of negative energy that are released in the body, allowing the healing to continue for an extended time even after the session is over.

Yes. Absolutely!
Reiki being universal life force energy available to all beings, is interconnected and can be offered to anyone, anywhere in the world!
Long-distance healing is an incredible modality that has been around for centuries and is becoming increasingly popular in today’s world.
This type of therapy transcends the physical limitations of traditional medicine, allowing practitioners to access energetic and spiritual levels of connection.
Through this connection, a qualified Reiki practitioner can channelize Reiki and connect with the energy field of the person receiving Reiki healing on mental, emotional and physical levels in any part of the world.
This concept has been explained by the ‘Quantum entanglement theory’ (by Einstein) in Quantum Physics.
Reiki taps into the energies of two particles distanced by time and space, thus nullifying distance!
Hence, distant Reiki healing done by a competent Reiki healer yields ditto benefit vis a vis Reiki administered through touch of the palm of a practitioner.

The duration of a Reiki session depends on factors like the client’s discretion as well as the goal ascertained in the pre-consult by the practitioner.
The client can pick a session from 30, 45 and 60 minutes, after discussing the issue to be tackled with the practitioner in the pre-consult.
There are top up sessions available for regular clients, and stress buster sessions for just feeling relaxed, calm and destressed which last about 30 minutes each.

Reiki practitioners work in their own private practices or with other health care professionals in medical centers, clinics and hospitals, as well as in hospices.
Reiki has become popular in hospitals as alternative therapy and are more common in Cancer wards and long-term care facilities.

Therapy plans are usually chalked out after the first Reiki session.
The practitioner may revise the same in future if needed depending on client’s progress and treatment goal that was ascertained in the pre-consult.
Each person is different and unique in terms of his physical, mental characteristics and beliefs which influence the degree of acceptance of Reiki as healing energy into the body.
The more analytical or negative the approach of the recipient towards Reiki, the slower the pace of recovery.
The quantum of benefits derived by each individual from a particular Reiki session differs and largely depends on how well the client’s body accepts, responds and recovers to each Reiki session.
In a nutshell, therapy plans can last a few days to a few months depending on firstly, the health goal ascertained and secondly, how one’s body incorporates the healing.
This is discussed, reviewed and planned between the client and practitioner on an ongoing basis through the tenure of the treatment.
